Nuestras investigaciones están sustentadas en un enfoque sistémico de la epidemiología que se denomina Ecoepidemiología. La ecoepidemiología “ve” a la infección-enfermedad como el resultado de interacciones ecológicas entre agentes causales (parásitos), las poblaciones de hospederos y el ambiente. Por lo tanto se caracteriza por integrar diferentes niveles de organización y descubrir causas y efectos de las infecciones en sistemas complejos. Así mediante el enfoque ecoepidemiológico estudiamos la transmisión de las enfermedades, tomando en cuenta tanto a las poblaciones humanas y las consecuencias de sus acciones, como a las variaciones moleculares de los parásitos.
