Sampling seed-carrying ants Measuring soil hardness Measuring vegetation Digging Pogonomyrmex nests

The several specific research lines that we are currently carrying out are related both to the entire assemblage of seed-carrying ants and to the granivorous species of the genus Pogonomyrmex that occur in Ñacuñán: Pogonomyrmex rastratus, Pogonomyrmex pronotalis y Pogonomyrmex inermis. Our main research lines are:

Diet and seed selection by species in the genus Pogonomyrmex.

Functional responses to variations in seed availability of the Pogonomyrmex species.

Foraging patterns and habitat associations of the Pogonomyrmex species.

Spatio-temporal distribution of the colonies of the Pogonomyrmex species.

Colony size and abundance of foraging workers in the Pogonomyrmex species.

Impact of the assemblage of seed-carrying ants on seed abundance and distribution.

Diversity and habitat associations of the assemblage of seed-carrying ants.

Spatial and temporal patterns of seed consumption in seed-carrying ants.

Measuring soil infiltration time Measuring vegetation Capturing ants Identifying ants that remove seeds from baits
